Visit the Royal Melbourne Alpaca Show & Royal Melbourne Poultry Show for Free!

Looking for something cute and cuddly to do with your weekend? Head to Melbourne Showgrounds for the Royal Melbourne Alpaca Show and Royal Melbourne Poultry Show.

Conducted by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV), the two events will be held from Saturday 8 – Sunday 9 July 2017.

There are two types of alpaca, the Huacaya, with wool similar to a Merino and the Suri, which is covered in ‘dreadlocked’ wool. Both of these breeds compete at the Royal Melbourne Alpaca Show.

Alpacas have a long domesticated history around the world; however, they have only been part of the Australian landscape since being introduced in 1989. They are a low maintenance animal, providing some of the finest and strongest quality wool.

Get up close to these majestic creatures and chat to breeders for free on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 July 2017 in the Boulevard Pavilion.

Be sure to also stop by the Royal Melbourne Poultry Show, where feathers will fly as a bevy of birds takeover Agricultural Hall.

From Pekin to Silkies and Modern Game to Indian Runners, this is one of the most prestigious fanciers’ competitions in the country.

Learn more about the different breeds of birds and watch as the judges decide which feathered friend takes home the title of Best in Show.

Entry for both the Royal Melbourne Alpaca Show and Royal Melbourne Poultry Show is free to the public and free parking is available onsite via Gate 5 on Langs Road.

Open Saturday 8 – Sunday 9 July 2017 from 10:00am.
