Sign up now for young farmers business boot camp

Young farmers are encouraged to sign up for a three day business boot camp designed especially to assist producers to understand and manage business risk.

Agriculture Victoria Program Manager Meat and Wool Services, Kate Linden said the Young Farmer Farm Business Boot Camp program was successfully piloted in 2015 and has returned to provide vital skills to assist young farmers.

“These boot camps are a fantastic opportunity for young producers to learn about business risk and strategies to help mitigate it.

“Comments from the pilot included that they are: “more confident managing whole farm budgets” and have “greater confidence in business management”,” she said.

“Participants will walk away with a business plan that helps them uncover and plan strategies to build their business.”

Ms Linden said the program is aimed at supporting young people who want to have a long and successful career in the sheep, beef and mixed farming industries.

The workshops will be co-delivered by technical experts from Meridian Agriculture.

Meridian’s Senior Business Advisor Warren Blyth said the sessions will be informative, interactive and enable participants to access tools to apply their learnings directly to their own businesses.

The three day program costs $100 per business (for up to two people) and includes meals and course materials.

Participants will need to register on Eventbrite.

The boot camps will be held in five different locations across Victoria in April 2017, May 2017 and June 2017 to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to attend one in their region.
